The Nowhere Emporium by Ross MacKenzie

‘The Nowhere Emporium’ by Ross MacKenzie is a brilliant book that will be remembered for years to come. It also, I might add, has just won the Blue Peter Award for best children’s fictional book, surely that should be enough to persuade you to pick up a copy to read. However if you are still not persuaded let me tell you a little bit about the story. It all starts with a boy named Daniel who stumbles across an amazing, magical shop that has everything you could possibly want in it. But when Daniel does something the shopkeeper doesn’t expect he begins to be taught the secrets of the Nowhere Emporium. This book will keep you hanging on till the end, hanging on to every word spoken, every phrase thought until you finish the book. Ross MacKenzie has created an inspirational story that everyone will be reading for years. I would recommend it to anyone above the age of eight

The Icarus Show by Sally Christie

The Icarus Show by Sally Christie where every turn of the page brought a new twist or adventure. Sally Christie has managed to capture emotions and explain them in a way I have never seen any author do before. Reading this book was like diving into a different dimension which is entirely like our own yet at the same time completely different. While reading this book I didn’t feel like I was looking at paper I felt like I was looking at whatever the character was looking at. While reading this book I didn’t feel like I was hearing the normal hustle & bustle of everyday life , it felt like I was hearing whatever was happening in the book. I also felt the character’s feeling and emotions rather than my own, when the characters were scared I felt a shiver run down my spine and the hairs on the back of my neck go up or when the characters were excited or happy I felt Goosebumps popping up all over me. Sally Christie has managed to write an excellent book that kept me reading sentence by sentence, paragraph by paragraph, and chapter by chapter well into the night and makes me want to read it again and again. I congratulate her on writing such an amazing novel and I hope you like it as much as I do.

The Screaming Staircase by Jonathon Stroud

‘The Screaming Staircase’ by Jonathan
Stroud was a book I could just not put
down from the word go. In this book
you follow Lockwood & Co.’s ups and
downs. Every new page brought
another twist, scare, surprise or
adventure. This story is one you can
dive into and really feel part of. The
characters’ fears are your fears; their
happiness is your happiness and what
the characters are seeing is what you
are seeing. Reading this book is like
visiting a different dimension, which is
mostly the same as ours but with a couple of big differences; like the fact that there are ghosts (Visitors ) everywhere, then you get called for dinner, back to reality, and it turns out you’re not in a cool ghost hunting agency planet but actually just in your house on your non-ghostly planet. This is a book that as soon as you’ve finished reading it you will want to read it again and again and again. A book I would definitely recommend to anyone, over the age of 9, who likes adventure, horror and a good, thick plot: though it’s not for the faint- hearted. Get this book and dive into the world of Lockwood & Co. and hopefully you will enjoy this book just as much as me.
